We are fortunate that many auditory implants now allow MRI scanning. It is likely that all of us will be referred for an MRI scan at some or several points in our lifetime.
There are considerations for people with auditory implants – for example clear instructions and liaison with radiology, magnet removal, bandaging and splints, discomfort, feedback to the manufacturers etc.
For this reason, BCIG has now formed a Special Interest Group (SIG) on the topic of MRI scanning in auditory implants.
Four groups have worked on:
Questionnaire for patients after they have had an MRI scan.
Guidance for professionals writing an MRI protocol
