Job overview
This is a fantastic opportunity to work within the largest auditory implant service in the UK. We are an integrated service that incorporates cochlear implants, auditory brainstem implants and bone conduction implants for adults and children.   You will  work within the adult auditory implant service to provide a holistic pre and post implant service to patients with cochlear implants, auditory brainstem implants and bone conduction devices.  You will have experience of implant work with adults using either cochlear implants and/or bone conduction devices. Additional training and support will be given where required. The department is unique in providing all hearing and balance services for adults and children under one management structure and within one hospital Trust. We are located in a purpose built facility with state of the art equipment and the department has close educational and research links to the University of Manchester. Successful candidates should have a recognised higher level of training and experience in Audiology.  We have UKAS accreditation for adult and paediatric services.

Main duties of the job
Assess adults for cochlear implant, auditory brainstem or bone conduction hearing devices.  You will contribute to clinical decision making and attend appropriate multidisciplinary meetings.  You will provide initial activation 'switch-on' of devices and long term maintenance, support and evaluation of patients using either cochlear implants/auditory brainstem implants or bone conduction implants.

Essential criteria
MSc Audiology or equivalent
BAA Higher Training Scheme Certificate of Clinical Competence or equivalent
Registration with HCPC or RCCP

Desirable criteria
Qualification in training or leadership
British Sign Language level 1

Experience

Essential criteria
Experience in auditory implant assessment and programming
Knowledge and understanding of professional policies and procedures
Post qualification experience with Complex hearing losses and non-routine hearing aid assessment and fitting
Experience of communicating and counselling profoundly deaf adults
Experience of hearing assessment in adults with severe/profound hearing losses

Desirable criteria
Evoked potentials assessments
Experience of leading service developments
Significant experience of working in an NHS setting (or equivalent)
Experience of initiating audit projects and working to UKAS accreditation standards
Experience with training and developing junior staff
Experience of managing stock control systems
Experience of presentation at meetings/Conferences
Publication of research in peer reviewed journals
Database management and experience of Microsoft excel
Knowledge Requirements

Essential criteria
Auditory implantation in adults. (either Cochlear implants or bone conduction)
Specialist hearing aid assessment and fitting

Desirable criteria
Evoked potentials and recording auditory brainstem responses and /or cortical evoked responses
Assessment of speech discrimination with implantable hearing devices

Cambridge University Biomedical Campus (Addenbrooke’s Hospital) has an upcoming vacancy for the audiology lead of our hearing implant service in the Emmeline Centre. For the right individual this is an exciting opportunity for your next career move.

We need an able and experienced audiologist or clinical scientist to develop this service to maintain the Emmeline Centre as a flagship implant service.  You will be organised and efficient and have a track record of service developments and promoting service oriented-research.  You will have extensive clinical experience with good knowledge of the under-pinning evidence. You will be experienced in promoting good practice within your service and beyond. 

In this role, you will be responsible for the clinical outcomes of the Emmeline audiology team and for demonstrating quality and driving service efficiencies.

In addition to leading the implant service audiology team, this post requires you to act as deputy for the Head of Service and hence includes significant leadership responsibility. It is expected that you will already have gained some experience in leading a team and be able to demonstrate the necessary skills and attributes. You will be an able communicator both within your team and with other disciplines and professional groups.

You will have at least a BSc or MSc in Audiology or equivalent and will already have gained experience in a clinical setting. RCCP/HPC registration is expected. HSST would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

To lead all aspects of the Emmeline audiology team

This post is concerned with:

1.    The provision of a comprehensive audiological service in the Emmeline adult and paediatric implant teams covering cochlear implants, middle ear implants and bone conduction implants.

2.    Responsibility for all operational planning and clinical outcomes within the Emmeline Audiology team.

3.    Policy decision making and strategic leadership in the Emmeline audiology team

4.    Responsible for quality across the Emmeline audiology team and meeting the requirements for IQIPS accreditation programme.

5.    Responsibility for all aspects of leadership and line management of the Emmeline audiology staff.

6.    To work with and deputise for the Head of Service. Service-orientated research and development.

7.    Promotion of the Implant service to related professions and across the East of England region.
