Senior or Lead Research Audiologist

We wish to appoint either a Senior or Lead Research Audiologist to a four-year part-time position. The post forms part of a programme of research led by Dr. Bob Carlyon of the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge, and will be primarily based at the Emmeline Centre for Hearing Implants, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.

The post involves the combination of clinical work with behavioural and electrophysiological studies of methods to improve hearing by cochlear implant (CI) users. Clinical aspects of the role include the fitting and management of CIs and contribution to all aspects of clinical care for CI patients with a focus on follow-up programming and obtaining outcome measures.

An important part of the role will include the integration of basic science carried out at the University with the clinical pathway of patients at the Emmeline Centre for Hearing Implants and will lead the recruitment of patients into research studies. Both the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit and the Emmeline Centre house state-of-the-art facilities are part of a thriving auditory research and clinical community, including the Cambridge Hearing Group, which involves auditory researchers from a wide range of disciplines throughout the University and Cambridge University Hospitals Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified audiologist to make a substantial contribution to cochlear research and to develop their research and clinical skills. The successful candidate will have strong clinical skills and experience and at least some research experience; a higher research degree is desirable but not essential. The appointment will be made at the Senior or Lead Research Audiologist level, corresponding to bands 6 and 7 of the NHS Agenda for Change pay scales.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first instance. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with adults’ barred list). This appointment also requires an NHS honorary contract which will be applied for at the time of appointment.
